5.0 out of 5 stars I love it, January 8, 2010
It feels sturdy, and does exactly what it says it will. The with the sole purpose caveat is the quick release. When it works (almost always) it's extremely simple to use, but it occasionally jams up.

4.0 out of 5 stars OK for cutback model, January 20, 2010
I bought this ball head to lead my Benro A-157M8 tripod which I like a lot, and because Amazon have a special sale on the head. The BR-168 skipper is an economy model, so one should be reasonable near expectations.

The fit and finish is only so-so. The base of early release mounting mechanism had some distinct small cosmetic dents and burrs, although they do not affect the function. The quick release itself feels solid and have a safety lever. Both plate and retention cam are metal.

The mounting base of the leader is 40mm in diameter. Unfortunately this is too small to match the 3 underside retaining screw of the A-157M8 tripod legs. Those retaining screws are positioned on a circle with diameter greater than 40mm. So one can undeniably mount the ball head on the tripod, but one cannot use the retaining screw. The ball head also come with an allen key. Strangely the allen push button is the wrong size for working with the A-157M8 retaining screws.

For equipment safekeeping the retaining screws is a very critical consideration. Prospective buyers should consider carefully whether there is a brutal mismatch between the ball head and their tripod.

I would enjoy expected better inter-interoperability and standardization between two Benro products, both positioned at a similar economy end. Given the cutback price, I'd let it squeak by with 4 stars.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great price solid see, August 23, 2009
Great price solid performance from this Tripod/monopod head. Great streamline design.

Not a huge supporter of the on off ease of operation but its not fruitless. It is a solid lock down on the camera.

** I wanted to add a reply to the productive review:
I used a Canon 40D with 17-85 and 50 1.8 on it. Nothing too big.

PLEASE NOTE: I did return this head. The contentment of operation was the main concern I have. I used it as a Monopod head and quick on and rotten was important to me.

Its a angelic value and build but the issue I had be that mounting the camera takes your attention and some focus to lock down.
